Best LED lights for a nano reef, by tank size
A nano reef light has to do two things: cover the display's footprint (its length and front-to-back depth) and deliver enough intensity for your corals. Most nano light makers don't publish PAR, so we compare the coverage footprint and intensity tier each maker lists. Every primary light in our catalog is checked below against four typical nano display footprints, from a 12×12 in cube to a 24 in long tank, for an LPS or mixed reef.
How we ranked: Each light is run through our sizing engine once per footprint (display L×W, LPS / mixed-reef intensity). Lights that qualify at more footprints rank higher; ties go to the closer intensity match and tighter coverage, the same order our per-tank pages use. Coverage and intensity tier come from the catalog; no PAR is assumed.

FAQ
What size light do I need for a nano reef?
Size the light by the display's footprint, not its gallons: the light's rated coverage should match or exceed the display's length and front-to-back depth. Several single-fixture nano lights in our catalog are rated by their makers to cover about 24×24 in, which spans most nano displays up to 24 in long. A 12 in fixture suits a cube around 12 in. For an AIO, measure the display area in front of the rear chamber, or use your tank's page, which does that math for you.
What intensity do I need for soft corals, LPS or SPS?
As a rule of thumb, a low-intensity light is enough for soft corals, a medium one suits LPS or a mixed reef, and SPS needs a high-intensity light. This page ranks for LPS or a mixed reef. Since most nano makers don't publish PAR, these tiers are our editorial reading of each maker's specs, not measurements. For soft-only or SPS goals, use the sizing tool.
Is a stronger light than I need a problem on a nano?
It can be. A light rated well beyond your corals' needs costs more, and running it hard on a small tank can encourage algae or stress corals. Most app-controlled lights can be dimmed, so an overshoot is manageable, but a closer match is usually the better buy.
