Best wavemaker for the Coralife BioCube 32
A wavemaker (also called a powerhead) moves water across the display, which corals need for feeding and to keep detritus suspended. We check every verified wavemaker against the BioCube 32's 30 gallon display using each maker's published flow and recommended tank size.
Quick answer: the Tunze Turbelle nanostream 6040 (HUB Edition) is the best match here: 1190 gph max ≈ 39.7× display volume per hour, inside the 20-50× rule of thumb.
How we check fit
Flow: max flow divided by the 30 gal display volume, aiming for 20-50× per hour (600-1500 gph). That band is a rule of thumb for an LPS or mixed reef, not a measurement. Tank size: a pump whose maker recommends it for a different tank size is not recommended. Glass: we have no published glass thickness for this tank, so compare your glass with each magnet's rating. Size: shown where the maker publishes it; a wavemaker sits in the display, so we don't make a fit claim from it.

FAQ
How much flow does the BioCube 32 need from a wavemaker?
As a rule of thumb, about 20 to 50 times the display volume per hour for an LPS or mixed reef: roughly 600-1500 gph on its 30 gallon display. The stock return pump (264 gph rated) circulates water through the rear chambers but doesn't make much flow across the rockwork. Soft-coral tanks can run at the low end, SPS tanks often want more. It is a starting point, not a measurement: aim the pump so it moves the whole display without blasting any one coral.
Will a magnetic wavemaker hold on the BioCube 32's glass?
We don't have a manufacturer-published glass thickness for the Coralife BioCube 32 (LED), so measure yours. Each wavemaker's magnet mount is rated by its maker for a maximum glass thickness (10 to 16 mm across the pumps here, listed in the table). If your glass is thicker than the rating, the mount may not hold.
Is a stronger, controllable wavemaker a good idea on a small tank?
It can be, if you can turn it down far enough. A pump running far above the band will blow sand around and can stress corals. Where a maker publishes a controllable pump's lowest flow, we check that it dials into the band; where it doesn't, the pump ranks below the ones we could confirm.
Why is a pump ruled out when its flow looks right?
We also respect each maker's own recommended tank size. If the maker rates a pump for a bigger or smaller tank than this one, we list it as not recommended even when the flow math looks close.
